Shamima Muslim, a renowned gender activist, has expressed her excitement and relief following the passage of the Affirmative Action, Gender Equity Bill 2024 by Parliament.

The bill, which aims to address historical gender imbalances and promote gender equity in both the public and private sectors, was passed on Tuesday, marking a significant milestone in the fight for gender equality in Ghana.

Speaking on Citi FM’s Eyewitness News, Shamima Muslim, former convenor of the Alliance for Women in Media Africa (AMWA), congratulated stakeholders on the passage of the bill, highlighting the importance of public education in ensuring its effective implementation.

“Congratulations, Affirmative Bill has been passed today. So finally we have the Affirmative Action Bill, it is no longer an equality bill, I think that there’ve been a few amendments and so it’s the Affirmative Action, Gender, Equity Bill. So in the coming days, we will get the final bill that was passed and then we’ll begin public education,” she said.
