Environmental Health Officers at the Ayawaso North Municipal Assembly have closed down a toilet facility in a home at Mamobi in Accra.
The officers found a pan latrine filled in a terrible condition and an overflowing waste paper.
There was also human excreta all over the floor covered with ash.

The Joy Clean Ghana Campaign team together with the officers discovered this when they toured the Mamobi residence to inspect home without toilet facilities on Thursday.
Speaking to Joy News’ Nancy Emefa Dzradosi, the Health Officer, Olivia Mariama Braimah said “I don’t even know how to even describe it. This is very bad and no longer safe for usage. They should close it and demolish it and get a new toilet facility for the household.”
“This is a notice for them to come and pay for the construction to take off immediately, to prevent the outbreak of diseases,” she added.
The landlord of the house has currently been served with a notice to visit the assembly’s office in less than 24 hours to pay an amount of money to the Greater Accra Metropolitan Area (GAMA) project for the toilet to be constructed.
According to Nancy Emefa Dzradosi, most of the homes visited during the tour had various sanitation-related issues with either their toilet facilities or their bathrooms.
Deepening the advocacy for clean communities, Joy News, a brand under The Multimedia Group Limited, has launched the Clean Ghana Campaign to rally citizens to their civic responsibilities.
The team made up of journalists, security officers, public health authorities and sanitation officers, including District Assembly officers, make unannounced visits to localities with the Accra Metropolitan Assembly to check on the state of sanitation.
The 11th-week’s tour is the first outside the Accra Metropolitan Assembly (AMA).
