The Civil Society Platform on Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs) has rolled out the second phase of its COVID- 19 response by supplying 5000 face masked and 9000 Information Education and Communication sticker materials to a section of vulnerable Ghanaians.
The items according to the Platform are to be shared to Persons with Disability (PWDs), Street Children, the Aged and the mentally ill across the country.
In May 2020, the Platform completed the Phase I of its COVID 19 response action which saw the distribution of 230 Bags of rice, 210gallons of cooking oil, 210 containers of soap and 20 packs of vitamins 1437 within the Greater Accra and Greater Kumasi catchment areas. The stuffs were disbursed to 519 (36 percent) of street children, 258(18 percent) aged/widows, 308(21 percent) mental health patience and 352(25 percent) PWDs.
Addressing the media in Accra, are presentative of the CSO COVID19 Response Committee, Ms Beauty Narteh noted that with the gradual relaxation of the restrictive measures that were earlier associated with the response to COVID 19, the phase II of the CSO COVID 19 response fund actions focuses on addressing behavioral issues that will help the citizenry comply and conform to the accepted distancing protocols.
“Ms Narteh told the gathered press that “the Phase II seeks to supply 5000 face masks and some 9000 Information Education and Communication sticker materials to facilitate sensitization efforts has been procured. These would be shared to PWDs, street Children, the Aged and the mentally ill across the country.”
The CSO platform comprises over 400 members, organized into 17 sub platforms, a youth sub- platform and 13 district platforms and ably managed by a 34 member steering committee. At the onset of the COVID 19 pandemic in Ghana, the platform together with its strategic partners set up the CSO COVID-19 responds fund to locally raise funds from its members, non- members and individuals to provide complementary support to what the government of Ghana is doing to alleviate the plight of the poor and vulnerable.
