Accra to host ‘Make in Africa 2021 Summit’

World Trade Centre Accra (WTC Accra) in collaboration with government ministries across Africa (concerned with trade, investment promotion and economic management), manufacturing firms, investors, development partners and other relevant stakeholders will hold the maiden edition of its Make in Africa 2021 Summit on the 30th June, 2021 under the theme “Showcasing Africa’s Potential as the World’s Next Manufacturing Hub”.

The principal objective of the virtual event Make in Africa 2021 Summit will be to promote industrialization and the rapid growth of the manufacturing sector in Africa. The Summit will seek to achieve this by conducting country-by-country presentations highlighting incentives and favorable conditions for establishing manufacturing industries across Africa. The Summit will also include expert panels that will discuss viable models for rapidly industrializing Africa and current challenges being faced by manufacturing entities on the continent.

The new Africa Continental Free trade Area (ACFTA) Agreement represents a special incentive for investing in Africa – especially in manufacturing, being the largest multilateral trade agreement signed since the creation of the World Trade Organization (WTO). ACFTA will create a common African market of 1.3 billion people and a cumulative GDP of about US$3.4 trillion.

WTC Accra’s Make in Africa 2021 Summit will consider the critical issues of how African governments can work in concert with global partners to leverage the continent’s ample resources to boost industrialization for domestic consumption and export beyond the shores of Africa. It will also seek to further decode structural inefficiencies that have impeded the growth of industrialization in Africa and conduct expert panel discussions on the best models for growing the sector.
