Ghana and Mexico to boost aviation cooperation

Ghana and Mexico are working towards opening a direct flight route between Accra and Mexico City in order to boost their aviation cooperation.

This came to light when the Mrs Maria de los Angeles Arriola Aguirre, Mexico’s Ambassador to Ghana, paid a courtesy call on Mr Joseph Kofi Adda, the Minister of Aviation in Accra.

The establishment of direct flight between Ghana and Mexico would go a long way to boost trade and tourism between the two nations.

Mr Adda said the Aviation Ministry was exploring the possibilities of establishing a home based carrier, which would be a national airline in collaboration with the private sector; adding that the Aviation Ministry was more or less the doorway to the economy of Ghana.

He said Terminal Three of the Kotoka International Airport was currently undergoing rehabilitation works in order to raise its standards to global competitive level.

He expressed the hope that bilateral and technical cooperation would be deepened between the two nations.

Mrs Aguirres in her remarks congratulated Mr Adda on his new appointment as the Minister of Aviation.

She said Mexico was building a new airport, which would be among the top leading airports in the world adding that once the project is completed, her country would like to open a direct flight between Mexico and Ghana.

Mrs Aguirres said such a flight route would enable Mexico reach out to the rest of the West African sub-region and other African countries.

She said a direct flight between Ghana and Mexico would open up the rest of the Latin Americas to Africa.

Mrs Aguirres appealed to Ghana to re-open her Mission in Mexico City, which was shut several years ago, as part efforts to boost the existing relations between the two nations.
