MP Advises Female Students To Aspire For Public Office

Ms Joycelyn Tetteh, MP for North Dayi, has advised female students in senior high and tertiary institutions to excel in their studies, and aspire to hold public office.

She explained that the Affirmative Action Bill, when passed into law would, make room for more females to hold public office, and urged students to be committed to their studies and acquire the necessary qualification for such positions.

The MP gave the advice in an interaction with the headmaster, some teachers and students of Anfoega Senior High school after their visit to the Parliament House, in Accra.

The Affirmative Action legislation would give legal support to increase representation and participation of women in governance and positions of decision making.

The implementation of the legislation would help eradicate discrimination on the basis of sex or gender by redressing social, economic and educational imbalances.

Ms Tetteh gave an assurance to continue to champion issues on social protection and bring issues affecting the constituency to the forefront, both in and out of the House.

The MP, in the company fellow MP Betty Krosbi Nana Efua Mensah, who represents the people in the Afram Plains North Constituency, advised the students, to study hard and make reading a passion.

Mr Richard Atieku Dillings, the Headmaster of Anfoega SHS appealed to the Ministry of Education and the GES, as well as individuals and organizations to assist the school with a modern administration block, accommodation facilities for teachers, kitchen, library, ICT facilities; and help improve the general security situation in the school.

Ms Rose Adedze, a Housemistress at the school, said she was excited at the visit, and promised to encourage the school to make more of such visits. “Parliament is really an interesting place,” she said.

The students were also full of joy for the visit.
