The Founding President of Imani Africa, Franklin Cudjoe has said the Ghana Education Service should be scrapped totally from the education system as it has proven ”unproductive”, ”problematic” and ”inefficient”, pointing out that, the Ghana Education Service is part of the problems of the education sector in Ghana.
He was speaking on Good Evening Ghana Tuesday night monitored by MyNewsGh.com.
“The Ghana Education Service should be scrapped”, that institution is part of the problems of education in Ghana”, Mr Cudjoe said as host Paul Adom Otchere announced the dissociation of his network from the comment.
But Mr Cudjoe won’t budge, he insisted: “GES should be cut into pieces and dumped” he added.
Mr Cudjoe said the government should have at least test the waters first before deciding to make free SHS actually free for everybody, commending the Finance Minister, Ken Ofori-Atta for his candour on Citi TV, by his admission that there was the need to make parents who can afford, pay for fees.
“The best thing government could have done was to do a means of testing to identify those who can’t pay. This would have freed resources…” he added.
Cudjoe said such hasty implementation of the policy has resulted in huge funding gaps that will need drastic measures to fill.
Earlier, Mr Cudjoe had kicked against suggestions, based purely on speculations at the time, over the increase in Value Added Tax (VAT) ahead of the mid-year budget reading, which proved to be a hoax.
